Home School Tutoring from Tutor Doctor Keeps Special Needs Students from Falling Through the Cracks

Local Tutor Doctor Provides Needed Services, Fills Increasing Gap in U.S. Education System

HAWTHORNE, NJ / ACCESSWIRE / July 20, 2015 / Tutor Doctor of North Jersey is pleased to now provide personalized one-on-one, in-home and home school tutoring services to students with special needs. These new services will help kids with special needs to succeed in school and life, by providing them with one-on-one tutoring by specially education certified, ABA trained tutors.

Finding the right resources for students with special needs in Bergen and Passaic County is becoming increasingly difficult for parents as education budgets continue to be cut. The hardest hit victims are students with special needs and their families, as less money is put aside for those students.

Add to that the growing length of time it takes for a student with special needs to receive his or her Independent Education Plan, or IEP, a document describing the student’s needs and the special education programs in place to meet the student’s needs. This problem is not unique to school districts in Bergen and Passaic County. In fact, in some cities around the around the country, developing an IEP can take more than a year. In addition, many of the programs needed for an IEP are being cut.

Tutor Doctor provides academic support and tutoring for kids with special needs in Glen Rock, NJ, including students with:

– ADD/ADHD
– Autism, including Asperger’s Syndrome
– Dyslexia
– Auditory and visual processing disorders
– Non-verbal learning disabilities

Tutor Doctor of North Jersey can begin tutoring students as soon as their special needs are identified so they don’t lose any time learning while waiting for their IEP. When the IEP is finally available, the Tutor Doctor specialized instructors will integrate it into their tutoring plan. Tutor Doctor can also work with parents to create an education framework if they’re unhappy with the IEP.

“Students with special needs and their families are faced with numerous challenges,” said Jessica Bush, owner of Tutor Doctor of North Jersey. “Parents shouldn’t have to worry that their child won’t get the educational support they need due to local school budget cuts. Our tutors can help to prevent these students from slipping through the cracks of the system.”

Tutor Doctor of North Jersey conducts its own assessment of a student’s needs, then matches the right tutor to the student. Tutors check in regularly and provide parents with weekly session reports. While Tutor Doctor helps set the student up to succeed and cope both socially and academically, they don’t endeavor to re-program or “fix” a learning disability. Rather, they work with students to support them in the learning process, provide study and organizational skills, help them learn strategies for coping and compensating, and take advantage of their strengths.

“Whether it’s a student with special needs, a student who just struggles with one subject or many, Tutor Doctor uses a holistic approach taking into account various family circumstances, time constraints, social situations, and even nutrition,” Bush said. “To truly help a student succeed, we look at the whole student.”
