Idaho Home Health and Hospice Social Worker Lejla Becirovic is Elevating Hospice Care with Transformative Programs for Families and Senior Care in Idaho

Lejla Becirovic, a globally recognized hospice social worker, has spent almost a two decades doing innovative programs combining legacy handmolds and sound meditation to foster emotional connection and healing among hospice families and seniors at Avista Assisted Living.

Idaho, USA, January 12, 2025A New Frontier in Hospice and Senior Care

Lejla Becirovic, an Idaho-based hospice social worker with over two decades of experience, is redefining how families and seniors experience care. Her groundbreaking programs, which integrate artistic legacy preservation with therapeutic sound meditation, address emotional well-being in ways traditional practices often overlook.

The centerpiece of her efforts lies in legacy handmolds, a deeply personal art form that creates tangible keepsakes for families. These handmolds capture moments of unity and love, often between hospice patients and their loved ones, offering a physical representation of their bond.

“Think about your favorite moment in life,” Lejla says. “What would you give to freeze it forever, capture it, and hold it in your hands? That’s what I aim to provide—a memory that families can keep, even after their loved one is gone.”

The intricately detailed handmolds have proven to be a source of comfort and connection for families, serving as enduring reminders of love and togetherness during challenging times.

Sound Meditation: Restoring Harmony and Community

Complementing her legacy handmold work, through her work with Idaho Home Health and Hospice, Lejla also leads sound meditation groups at Avista Senior Living in Twin Falls. These sessions use therapeutic tones and mindfulness techniques to address the growing isolation and emotional disconnection often faced by seniors.

The program is designed with three key objectives: reintegration, engagement, and fostering cohesiveness among participants. Residents often report reduced anxiety, improved focus, and a greater sense of belonging.

“Sound therapy is a powerful tool,” Lejla explains. “It’s not just about relaxation—it’s about creating a safe space where seniors can rebuild connections and feel part of a community again. Isolation can have devastating effects, but sound meditation has shown remarkable results in helping residents feel supported and engaged.”

Lejla Becirovic has been teaching meditation groups at Avista Senior Living in Twin Falls, Idaho for the past 5 years. Lejla explains  “Avista has been my second home. I love the partnership I have with them and I am grateful for their willingness to allow me to bring to the table different ideas and support me in thinking outside of box. I am grateful for them knowing how important some of the programs are and how they can enrich the lives of their residents. What I appreciate is that their focus is always on quality of service for their residents. They are pioneering right alongside of me and I am grateful.”

Through the harmonious interplay of sound, the groups also encourage self-reflection and emotional release, contributing to holistic well-being.

Recognition for Transformative Contributions

Lejla’s innovative work has earned her a distinguished place in healthcare and social work. In 2024, she was honored with the Global Recognition Award for her lifetime contributions, a testament to her dedication to advancing care practices.

Her impact has been acknowledged at the national level as well. She received Hospice Hero awards in both 2018 and 2019, recognizing her extraordinary commitment to patients and their families. Additionally, she has twice been commended by President Barack Obama, who praised her efforts to improve the lives of those in her community through compassionate and creative care practices.

In 2022, Lejla was named a Hometown Hero, highlighting her role as a changemaker in her field and a beacon of hope for families navigating difficult journeys.

A Creative Legacy with Global Implications

What sets Lejla apart is her ability to blend art, innovation, and care into a unified approach that touches lives far beyond Idaho. The handmold creations, which began as a personal project, have garnered national attention for their emotional depth and healing properties.

Each handmold is a collaborative process, requiring trust and vulnerability between patients and their families. The resulting keepsakes become cherished symbols of love and connection, fostering resilience and comfort during times of grief.

Meanwhile, her sound meditation programs are setting a new standard for emotional and mental wellness in senior care. By emphasizing community building, these sessions address systemic challenges such as loneliness and isolation, making them a model for assisted living facilities nationwide.

Bridging Generations Through Art and Healing

Lejla’s approach to care is deeply rooted in her understanding of the human need for connection. Her work bridges generational divides, offering families and seniors opportunities to create shared experiences that transcend time.

For hospice patients, the process of creating a handmold becomes a moment of reflection and connection—a way to leave a lasting legacy. For their families, the molds provide a tangible way to remember and celebrate their loved ones.

Similarly, the sound meditation groups provide seniors with a renewed sense of purpose and belonging, fostering emotional connections with peers. This dual focus on art and sound therapy demonstrates Lejla’s commitment to addressing both individual and community needs.

Expanding the Vision

As these programs continue to grow, Lejla remains committed to expanding their reach and impact. By collaborating with other care facilities and organizations, she hopes to inspire a broader shift toward holistic care practices that prioritize emotional and social well-being alongside physical health.

Her work serves as a reminder that caregiving is as much about nurturing the soul as it is about addressing the body’s needs. Through creativity, compassion, and innovation, Lejla Becirovic is paving the way for a new era of senior and hospice care.

“At Idaho Home Health and Hospice, we aim at providing more than symptom management. Our interdisciplinary team treats the whole person including physical, emotional and spiritual support. Its really about body, mind and spirit. It’s about the whole person not just managing symptoms. I am honored to work alongside of a team that gives their all in providing the best care at the most difficult time of patient and families lives. This type of work is more of a calling, than just a job.”
