50/50 Applause Award Accepting 2015 Nominations May 1, 2015.

(The World) – The International Centre for Women Playwrights (ICWP) announces the nomination window for its prestigious annual award. The award, now in its fourth year, increases awareness of gender disparity in the theatre community and celebrates theatres which produced a 2014/15 season with an equal or greater number of plays written by female playwrights.

The nomination period for the 2014/15 theatrical season runs from May 1–22, 2015. Requirements for eligibility for the award are listed on this web page: http://www.womenplaywrights.org/award

First and foremost, eligible theaters must have produced plays written by women at least half the time during their 2014/15 season. While ICWP is a huge fan of theatres dedicated to women, the award is reserved for theatres that do not have women’s work as part of their mission statement, to show the broad appeal of plays written by female playwrights.

The organisers are anticipating an overwhelming response this year and are asking interested members of the public, theatregoers and theatre professionals around the world to start researching and be ready to nominate qualifying theatres from May 1st. A button for accessing the nominating form will go live on the ICWP website at that time.

ICWP is again looking forward to the enthusiastic sharing of this opportunity on social media to make the awards as widely known as possible among theatre fans and practitioners in even more countries.

ABOUT ICWP – Established in 1989, The International Centre for Women Playwrights is an organisation that exists to bring attention to the achievements of women playwrights and to provide a place for peer support, knowledge-sharing, and play publication. It is the goal of ICWP to enable women playwrights to have their plays professionally produced on the major stages of world theatres and to receive just recompense for their efforts. When the numbers are no longer tragically skewed against women, such an organisation will no longer be needed.
