Invokana Lawsuit News: Patients Are Saying That One of the Side Effects They Have Experienced is Kidney Failure

April 29, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a plaintiff’s allegation from an Invokana lawsuit which alleges there is a link between the drug and kidney damage. Several diabetes patients who have used the drug stated that they have experienced kidney failure. In fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has received a number of complaints from patients stating that they experienced extreme kidney damage while using the drug, intended to treat type II diabetes.

Invokana is one of many SGLT2 inhibitors that is designed to help the kidneys reject excess glucose. By doing this, the glucose is not reabsorbed by the kidneys and the patient has a lower level of dependence on insulin and other regulatory medications. In order to get rid of the sugar, however, the kidneys must push it out of the body through urination. This process causes excess strain on the kidneys and strain of any kind could potentially cause kidney damage, especially for those with previous kidney problems.

50 individuals have reported renal impairment and kidney failure to the FDA since the drug was released in 2013 .Because of the claims made by plaintiffs and the numerous adverse event reports received by the FDA, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, the maker of Invokana, has been required to add additional warning labels to the product, noting the potential for kidney problems as well as other conditions which can include urinary tract infections and ketoacidosis.

“We are currently investigating several cases where individuals who took an SGLT2, such as Invokana, Farxiga or Jardiance, subsequently were diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis, kidney complications, heart attack and stroke. If we prove that these complications were caused by the drug, we look forward to aggressively pursuing the rights of our clients and recovering just compensation for their pain and suffering, and for what their families may have had to endure,” stated attorney Laurence Banville, a defective drug and product lawyer and sponsor of TheProductLawyers.com.
