Invokana Lawsuit Plaintiffs Note Findings In ISMP Reports Which Connect Drug Use To 168 Cases Of Metabolic Acidosis

March 24, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com report on over 150 adverse event reports which were made to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration detailing stories of patients who had used new-generation diabetes drug Invokana and who also suddenly developed a condition known as metabolic acidosis.

Metabolic acidosis (and diabetic ketoacidosis) is a potentially life-threatening condition which occurs when the body’s bloodstream contains a surplus of toxic acid. If untreated, patients with this condition can go into comatose states or even die. The condition is dangerous, and has been noted to occur in as little as 24 hours. Reports detailing the condition as adverse events experienced by patients taking Invokana were listed In a QuarterWatch report from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices. Additionally, it has been reported that the FDA has received 5,500 adverse event reports discussing health problems patients have developed while using Invokana.

The FDA has recently brought up this concern to the public and has asked diabetic patients using Invokana to look closely for signs which could show that they are beginning to develop metabolic acidosis. As this and other adverse event reports become publicly addressed, patients taking the drugs are expressing concerns for their safety, and lawsuits against Invokana have begun to appear.
