Chicago intellectual property attorney to will present “Tales from the Startup Trenches: How IP Practice Must Evolve to Succeed in the New Entrepreneurial Economy” on September 5

Randy Micheletti, JD, President and Founder of Incubate IP, announced today that he will be presenting a startup-oriented session at an upcoming meeting of the Chicago Bar Association (CBA). In his speech, “Tales from the Startup Trenches: How IP Practice Must Evolve to Succeed in the New Entrepreneurial Economy,” Micheletti will discuss how intellectual property law practices need to change to attract more early-stage ventures as clients.

“Having been around the block more than a few times in this context, I plan to share some insights into what it takes to succeed with startups, especially those based on the potential value of intellectual property like patents and copyrights,” said Micheletti. “A lot of traditional IP law strategies don’t apply very well to startups because young companies have unique needs and funding models. And, of course, the mindsets and personalities of startup clients can be quite different from those you typically find in established businesses.”

The presentation will make Randy Micheletti the inaugural speaker for the 2018-19 series of talks hosted by the Intellectual Property division of the CBA Young Lawyers Section. His decade of experience working with startups demonstrates several key ways in which intellectual property practice habits must change if attorneys are to remain attractive partners for new business opportunities.

Micheletti, a member of the Illinois Bar, has represented technology clients large and small for nearly a decade. He has been licensed to practice before the US Patent & Trademark Office since 2003. After earning a BA in Chemistry and a MS in Organic Chemistry, Micheletti received his Juris Doctor from the Chicago Kent School of Law in 2009.
