IVC Filter Lawsuit Plaintiff From Missouri Claims Defective Device Caused Death Of Husband

April 20, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a wrongful death lawsuit filed by a widow against IVC filter manufacturer C.R. Bard which references the filter device. This lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri by a woman whose husband has reportedly died after his implanted IVC filter device tilted within his body, which caused the device to fail at preventing blood clots from traveling to the man’s lungs and heart.

IVC filters are used among patients who are deemed to be at increased risk for blood clot formation, but who are unable to take traditional blood-thinning drugs. These devices are surgically implanted into patients’ inferior vena cava veins, which travel from the lower legs toward the heart and lungs. Here, if blood clots form in the lower body and begin to travel to areas where they could cause significant harm or become life threatening, they will be able to be blocked by the filter.

The plaintiff reports that her husband was implanted with a G2 IVC filter in November of 2006 in order to prevent the risk of blood clots traveling to his heart and lungs. After implantation, however, the filter device reportedly tilted within the man’s inferior vena cava, perforating the vein and failing to block blood clots formed in his lower body from traveling to his heart and lungs. He passed away from the aftermath of a fatal blood clot in September of 2012.

The manufacturer of the IVC filter device that the widow’s husband was implanted with, C.R. Bard, has been accused by many plaintiffs of making a device that is considered both defective and dangerous. It has been reported that they are currently facing an estimated 50 lawsuits referencing their G2 and Recovery brand IVC filters. These cases have now been centralized in an Arizona federal litigation.
