IVC Filter Lawsuit Plaintiffs Live in Daily Fear, After Reports Indicate Failed IVC Filters Can Cause Catastrophic Damage
July 05, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a lawsuit filed against IVC filter manufacturer, C.R. Bard, by a South Dakota woman who alleges that her Eclipse IVC Filter fractured and the pieces cannot be removed from her body due to the risk involved. She claims that surgeons tried to remove the pieces from her body but were unsuccessful since they had migrated to high-risk areas of her body. She claims that she now lives each day in fear that the pieces will again move and cause a life-threatening and potentially fatal event.
The plaintiff claims had an IVC filter implanted because she was susceptible to the formation of blood clots which could travel toward her heart and lungs and could have precipitated a pulmonary embolism or other very serious health complications. The filters are meant to be used only temporarily until the threat of clot formation passes, yet the plaintiff claims the pieces will remain in her body due to the location of their migration. The devices are meant to catch blood clots and hold them until they dissipate.
There have been numerous other allegations made all across the United States similar in scope to that which is being claimed by the South Dakota plaintiff. Many IVC filter patients have reported the same experiences and suffer from fractured filters and pieces migrating to other parts of the body. The pieces can puncture veins and organs and embed into parts of the body from which they cannot be removed due to the life-threatening risks involved.
