IVC Filter Lawsuits And Linked Patient Deaths Discussed In Recent NBC News Investigation

April 05, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on details from a recent NBC News Investigation which showed that in over a decade, the Recovery IVC filter made by C.R. Bard has been linked to at least 27 patient deaths and over 300 non-fatal injuries. This discovery has led to hundreds of lawsuits which have been filed against C.R. Bard in reference to the product, alleging that it has been improperly designed.

Plaintiffs involved in current lawsuits allege that the IVC filter can break into pieces and travel from its initial implant spot to pierce veins or become lodged in internal organs and intestines. IVC devices are implanted within patient’s’ inferior vena cava veins and are used to filter blood traveling from the lower body to the lungs and heart in order to prevent blood clots from moving to these areas. The filters are used by patients who are unable to take blood-thinning drugs. According to plaintiff arguments, however, the devices have a faulty design and manufacturers like C.R. Bard and Cook Medical were negligent in failing to properly warn consumers about these potential problems.

IVC filter placement is intended to be temporary, and the device is supposed to be removed when the patient is no longer at risk for blood clots. The FDA has recently recommended that IVC filters ideally be removed between 29 and 54 days after implantation to avoid increased risk of the devices breaking or traveling within the body. Some current plaintiffs claim that the devices have traveled and are now so deeply lodged into risk areas within their body that physicians are unable to safely surgically remove them.

The attorneys of Banville Law understand how concerning these allegations likely are for patients currently implanted with IVC devices. They are working to assist others who have been or are currently implanted with the devices and who believe that the devices are causing them to experience adverse health events. Affected patients may be entitled to significant compensation gained through legal action, and should be provided with the important opportunity to investigate their legal rights in the matter fully. To help give patients this opportunity, the attorneys of Banville Law are currently offering free legal consultations for qualified parties. They also sponsor the online resource website TheProductLawyers.com, which is designed to keep the public informed of important information concerning certain medical products and drugs.
