Jeffrey Phillips Attorney Law Group Welcomes Settlement In Serafin Razo Case

April 19, 2016 – – The Jeffrey Phillips Attorney Law Group was happy to announce a recent settlement in the personal injury case of Serafin Razo against Gary Naylor. The case itself has been ongoing for eight years and has been an excellent example of how complex personal injury can be. Fortunately, a settlement, although the amount has not been made available to the public, has now been reached, which means justice has prevailed.

“The case of Officer Serafin Razo has been long and complicated,” says Jeffrey Phillips himself. “The accident itself happened some eight years ago, and a verdict was reached at a trial by jury at Camp Verde. However, the defense filed an appeal at the Arizona Court of Appeals (CA-CV 15-0716) but a settlement was offered and accepted. While we are not able to let the public know the amount of the settlement, we are pleased to announce that this case has finally come to an end and that all parties are able to move on.”

Officer Razo was injured when the door of a school bus was closed against his head. The officer had stopped the bus due to an issue with the lights and came on board to speak to the driver. When suggesting that they look at the lights, he attempted to disembark when the door closed against his head. It is accepted that this was due to an accidental action of the driver.

That being said, Officer Razo sustained significant injuries as a result of the incident and had to undergo cervical fusion surgery. He was also unable to continue with his job as an officer, leading to significant loss of income for the rest of his life. Initially, Officer Razo was awarded $1 million by the jury, but this verdict was appealed against. However, as a settlement has now been reached, there is unlikely to be a need for the new case to be heard.

The Phillips Disability Law Offices have worked on similar cases and know the anguish that all parties involved experience. “This particular case really is one of a kind,” adds Jeffrey Phillips. “It isn’t often that we see a personal injury suit go on for eight years, with appeals and requests for new trials. We’re just happy that a settlement has been reached.”
