SANTA BARBARA, CA – March 31, 2017 /MarketersMedia/ —
Kenny Slaught, renowned real estate expert, talks on how innovative designs and eco-friendly interventions have drastically reshaped and improved every component that makes up a building, allowing for quality control over factors like lighting, security, heating, ventilation, among many more. On his blog at KennySlaught.com, he discusses Europe’s new development – the Edge building that defies the common understanding of architecture and pushes the boundaries of imagination, as businessmen of today strive to enhance smart technologies and sustainability elements in their office space.
The Edge is a building based in Amsterdam that consolidates all the city’s employees working with the leading “Big Four” consulting firm – Deloitte Netherlands. Developed by the Dutch firm OVG, the 40,000m² office building was designed by London-based architects PLP Architecture. The Edge has received the world’s highest BREEAM rating (98.36%) awarded to an office building, which technically makes it the greenest building on the planet. The design is highly sustainable and appointed with an unmatched level of technologically advanced featured that rightfully led to the Edge’s recognition as the most intelligent building ever built to date.
Kenny Slaught argues that the Edge complex is the most practical and complete representation of a modern office space, an example of what the Internet of Things has the power to create and how it should operate. Everything begins right from the way one accesses the Edge. Employees are connected to the structure by using their smartphones. They all use a digital application that tracks everything they do when they work and gives a concrete structure to a typical workday of individuals using the app. From the moment they wake up in the morning, the app begins their day by suggesting a scheduled calendar and upon arrival at work, it communicates with the building to give the employees of the global firm access to their vehicle by recognizing the latter’s license plate.
Outside of the Edge, the mobile application also helps to find a parking space within the inside of the building There are special spots where building tenants can charge their electric cars for free during their workhours. Dedicated parking lots are offered to those who commute to work on bicycles since this is a fairly common practice in the Netherlands. Inside the building, finding a designated office is another easy task for Deloitte employees who then use the app on their mobile phones or other smart gadgets to locate an office station, which may be a different one each day, as nobody at the Edge has a unique office desk attached to one individual only.
