Co-Founder of Kitchen CUT and Michelin Starred Chef, John Wood, has touched down in Delhi as one of the judges of this year’s prestigious Young Chef Olympiad competition.

Henley on Thames, UK, January 30, 2018 This week, the 4th International Young Chef Olympiad (YCO) 2018, organised by the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) is taking place at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in Delhi and Kitchen CUT Co-Founder, John Wood is one of the judges.

The world’s biggest culinary Olympiad is being held all week until from January 28 to February 2. The participating countries have been divided into five groups, each of whom will take part in three different rounds being held at Delhi, Pune, and Bangalore, culminating in a grand finale and closing ceremony in Kolkata on 2nd February.

With over 50 young chefs competing from all over the world, the event promises to showcase the brightest and most promising talent from all over the globe. Encouraging bright new talent is something that Kitchen CUT Co-Founder and Michelin Starred chef believes is fundamentally important and so the decision to become involved as a judge for the event was an easy one:

“I’ve always been passionate about giving back to the industry I have been a part of for over 35 years, particularly in supporting young chefs just starting out in hospitality, so it’s an absolute honour to be here judging at the Young Chef’s Olympiad.”

As one of the judges, John has been asked to deliver a speech about Technology in the Hospitality Industry at the International Culinary Forum.

“It’s important that we equip our bright new talent with the skills not only to produce wonderful dishes, but also to manage the back office of a busy kitchen; understanding the essentials of costing recipes, waste management, allergen tracking and so much more. The use of technology in hospitality is becoming more and more important, and a system like Kitchen CUT makes the admin side of a chef’s role faster and simpler and so frees up time to develop recipes, talk to customers and manage a kitchen team.”

When asked about John’s involvement with YCO2018 and the reasons why the committee had asked for John to join the judging panel, YCO organisers explained,

“The Young Chef Olympiad has established itself as one of the leading Culinary Competition for student chefs across the globe. For the last 3 years the competition has grown constantly in stature and in the quality of students participating . This being the 4th Season we are delighted to announce our association with Chef John Wood as a Senior Judge. Chef Wood has established himself in the world of Culinary Arts as a Michelin Star, 4 AA Rosettes and has successfully stepped into the field of entrepreneurship with the very successful Kitchen CUT. We believe that Chef John Wood will contribute immensely in this year’s Young Chef Olympiad with his vast experience and Culinary knowledge.”

We couldn’t agree more! We’d like to wish all the participants the very best of luck!
