L. Ron Hubbard’s “Battlefield Earth” Dominates in 2016

2016 saw some major accomplishments for Galaxy Press with the release of L. Ron Hubbard’s bestselling novel “Battlefield Earth”

On 14 June 2016 Galaxy Press released L. Ron Hubbard’s science fiction novel “Battlefield Earth” as a trade paperback book with cover art by Frank Frazetta. At the same time they released a 47.5-hour multicast audiobook featuring over 65 actors and 150,000 sound effects. Both the book and audiobook made it to the #1 spot on the Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. It also took the number one spot for science fiction in USA Today and on Barnes & Noble.

The release event was unlike any other where Galaxy Press crashed a 30-foot spaceship on Hollywood Boulevard as hundreds of fans looked on. Galaxy Press continued with over 300 promotional events in 2016 held throughout the country from bookstores to book fairs. The crashed spaceship also appeared last October at Alien Con, a convention held in San Jose, CA. It’s final appearance for the year was at the Hollywood Christmas Parade with the lead characters from the book riding in the cockpit―now a float―as it traveled along the parade route surrounded by kilted Scotsmen and a bagpiper/drummer band.

The reports show the book/audiobook total sales now exceed 4 million making it one of the best selling science fiction novels of all time.

In addition to topping charts, the audiobook received an Earphone Award and was named one of the best science fiction audiobooks of 2016 by AudioFile Magazine. As one fan at Audible headlined his review for the audiobook, “Completely ruins all other audiobooks!” With over 11,000 downloads on Audible.com, the audiobook maintained a 4.6 out of 5 star rating.
