Basketball Gods: The Transformation of the Enlightened Jock featuring Lance Allred hits #1 on the Basketball Biographies, Sports Essays, and Biographies & Memoirs best sellers lists.
September 29, 2015 – After reaching a vast audience with his first book Longshot: The Adventures of a Deaf Fundamentalist Mormon Kid and His Journey to the NBA, former professional athlete Lance Allred has returned with another inspiring memoir. Like his first publication, Basketball Gods: The Transformation of the Enlightened Jock tells the story of his life as a deaf athlete involved in the world of professional basketball. Published by L Squared Productions on September 4th, the book has made its mark in the space of a few short weeks. On September 11th, the publication became a best seller on Amazon, hitting the #1 spot in three different categories: Basketball Biographies, Sports Essays, and Biographies & Memoirs.
Basketball Gods: The Transformation of the Enlightened Jock is the sequel to Longshot: The Adventures of a Deaf Fundamentalist Mormon Kid and His Journey to the NBA. The memoir picks up where its predecessor left off, with Allred detailing the challenges of being involved in the NBA, including lower than expected pay and a lot of time at the end of the bench. The book also highlights Allred’s transition from the NBA to the NSB Napoli for its final season. In addition to sharing intriguing details about his journey as a professional athlete, Allred delves into his dealings with a major publisher. Throughout, he explores the idea of acceptance, especially in the face of realities that continuously prove far different than initial expectations.
Readers, able to relate to Allred’s tale of forgiveness and self-acceptance, have propelled his second memoir to the top of several Amazon best seller lists. Encouraged by the success his books have achieved thus far, Allred is now hoping to transition into other genres. He currently has a Victorian satire and a 14th century historical fiction novel in the works. His other pursuits include motivational speaking and hosting a radio show in Salt Lake City. His memoir and the success he’s achieved since writing it are a testament to his continued hard work and refusal to give up in the face of adversity.
Lance Allred is also co-writing a third book with his father Vance Allred to the trilogy called: The Birthright: Forgiveness in the Violent World of Polygamist America. The book will include Vance’s story as the “heir” to Rulon Allred’s kingdom with insight on who Rulon was while interweaving Lance’s transition out of basketball.
