Last Song and Dance by Christopher Woods Receives 5 Star Review
Christopher Wood’s novel, Last Song and Dance, has received a five star review from the San Francisco Book Review. “Overall, Woods’ novel is absurd, tedious, laugh-out-loud funny, horrible, and genuinely thought-provoking—all at once.”

The Last Song and Dance by Christopher Woods is an experimental literary work about Cy Sullivan, a failed alcoholic author, who has returned to his hometown from years of exile, scandal and disgrace, not in triumph but simply to die. He has but a week to compose his great American novella, Curse of the Blue Nun, which he cynically structures in relation to the seven days of creation in the Book of Genesis. A surrealist bible of sorts–but unlike the original, this one does not purport to be true.
“Christopher Woods has penned a curious yarn in Last Song and Dance. The book is written in a unique style unlike any other… With wonderful black ink drawings that capture the mood of the characters of the story, the author paints an ominous narrative” says D. Wayne Dworsky, reviewer for the San Francisco Book Review. The full review can be read HERE.
Woods says of his book, “While I’ve employed sly commentary on weighty issues such as opiate addiction, religious hypocrisy and impending death, LAST SONG… takes nothing seriously including itself and failed author. Stylistic references range from Shakespeare to James Joyce, Wm Burroughs, Li’l Abner, jailhouse lingo and supernatural horror so it is quite an eclectic stew.”

Anthony Perrotta from the Manhattan Book Review says “Overall, Woods’ novel is absurd, tedious, laugh-out-loud funny, horrible, and genuinely thought-provoking—all at once. There is a slight commentary on drug addiction and religious hypocrisy, but Woods’ comedic nihilism prevents the work from taking itself too seriously. And in true, stream-of-consciousness fashion, the references to other pieces of fiction, including the works of William Shakespeare and James Joyce, and William S. Burroughs’ Naked Lunch, are never-ending.”
Christopher Woods is aging gracelessly in Louisville, KY, USA. He lives in a box with his failing typewriter, Clarabelle and albino blind/deaf creature, Spot who is over fifty years old and rumored to be the world’s oldest living dog, if that is indeed its species. This is the first novel by Mr. Woods and assistants Clarabelle and Spot but, in all likelihood, is their last song and dance. He can be reached at chriswoods502@gmail.com.
