LOS ANGELES, California (June 5, 2018) – Law Offices of Samer Habbas & Associates, one of Southern California’s leading personal injury firms, is pleased to announce the presentation of $2,500 in scholarship money to a graduate school student who wrote about her experience after a life altering motorcycle crash.

Participants in the Samer Habbas & Associates first annual college scholarship competition essay contest were asked to write a 2,000-word essay about an accident the applicant or their loved one was involved in and how it impacted their life.

The firm accepts applications from all over the county. The winner can use the money to pay for college related expenses.

“We are committed to giving back to the community any way we can,” said Samer Habbas, owner and managing attorney at Law Offices of Samer Habbas. “One of the best ways to give back to our community is to invest in the education of our future leaders.”

According to CNBC, more than 44 million Americans collectively hold nearly $1.5 trillion in student debts. CNBC further reported that the average student loan borrower has $37,172 in student loans, a $20,000 increase from 13 years ago. This data does not even include graduate school students.

Announcing the Scholarship Winner

Law Offices of Samer Habbas received many applications this year, making the selection process extremely difficult. The selection committee chose Janell Ann Couperthaite as the winner for the amazing essay she submitted. Janell received her bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Eastern Michigan University. After graduation, she moved to rural Alaska, where she shadowed physician assistants practicing in rural primary care clinics at the Alaska Native Medical Center. Janell has been accepted to the Idaho State University’s Physician Assistant Program.

Janell’s essay was about a motorcycle accident that resulted in serious injuries. Her ability and perseverance in fighting the long road to recovery has made her the amazing person she is today and her desire to pursue a career in medicine.

“I am very thankful and honored to be awarded the scholarship,” said Janell. “The scholarship will help immensely this coming fall.”

Attorney Habbas and his legal team are impressed by Janell’s determination to fully recover and her dedication to wanting to help others as a future healthcare professional.
