The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiled the landscaping makeover at Friends for Life, 5000 Lakewood Drive donated by Lawns Ltd. After the ceremony, Lawns Ltd. received a special honor for their “act of kindness.” Each year Lawns Ltd. chooses a worthy project for their “Give Back to the Community” Campaign. This year the premier landscaping company in Waco, chose Friends for Life, a Waco-based charity that serves the elderly and people with disabilities in 82 Texas counties.

The Landscaping Makeover included a low-maintenance design incorporating native grasses, flowering trees, shrubs and plants, crushed granite, rocks, and boulders. Also, an irrigation system was installed, and Lawns Ltd. will return each month as needed to maintain their creation.

“We were so honored to be included in this Volunteer Appreciation award presentation. Most of our crew was able to come, including our designer, Josh Wible,” said Lisa Torgersen, Founder, and CEO of Lawns Ltd. “We spent months of planning, taking out old shrubs and installing our new design. The landscaping has completely changed the look of their facility. It went from sad to very happy. Now it represents what is going on inside their building. They do amazing work for the elderly and people with disabilities. We wanted family members who drop off and pick up their loved ones each day, and the staff who work there to be proud of the facility. I know we have achieved that. We included maintenance because what’s worse than receiving a gift you cannot take care of?”

Friends for Life was able to purchase their present facility at 5000 Lakewood Dr. with the help of a grass-roots campaign and a major donation by The Paul and Jane Meyer Family Foundation. The facility houses the Adult Day Care and administrative offices for the Guardianship Program, which serves 82 counties in Texas, the Money Management Program, and the Independent Living/ Quality of Life Program.

“We are proud of our new landscaping, said Inez Russell, Friends for Life’s Founder and Executive Director. “We chose a special way to thank Lawns Ltd. by honoring them with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an open house where everyone could see our new look and supporters could say thank you to Lisa, Josh, and their crew.”
