Lebanon County Business Owner Killed In Trench Fall, Triggers Comments By Construction Accident Lawyer

June 27, 2016 – – Thomas Moverman of LipsigLawyers.com recently commented on a tragic trench fall accident that occurred in central Pennsylvania, where a local man lost his life. Attorney Moverman is deeply saddened by the recent development and sends his condolences to the victim’s family. Moverman notes that construction accidents can be especially troublesome, because, in a great number of construction accident cases, local authorities and safety inspectors have deemed that the accidents may have been preventable with adherence to federal safety rules and regulations

A local report by Central Penn Business Journal, claims that a local man died after rescue crews extracted him from a 15-foot trench after the victim fell into the trench during an excavation job. A local coroner stated that the victim died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries after he was rushed to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center on June 21, 2016. Furthermore, local authorities stated that there will be no criminal charges following the incident.

The federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) claimed that in 2014, there were close to 900 construction workers who were fatally wounded while at a construction work- site. OSHA is a federally mandated agency that is tasked with the responsibility of maintaining the health and safety of nearly 130 million American workers, at nearly 8 million different job sites. Regrettably, although OSHA’s mission should help prevent injuries, fatalities, and worksite violations, the agency is vastly understaffed and tasks each of OSHA’s 2,200 inspectors with the oversight of over 59,000 workers each.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicated that in 2014, the most common cause of worker deaths in construction was falls, making up nearly 40 % of all construction worker deaths. An estimated 359 construction workers died in 2014 from fatal falls, equating to just under one fatal fall accident per day. Hopefully, with the proposed requirement for workers to be equipped with safety harnesses, many such accidents can be avoided in the future.
