Levow DWI Law Releases Innovative Tool to Help Drivers and Lawyers Understand Home-State and Out-Of-State DUI / DWI Consequences
September 23, 2015 – – Levow DWI Law is proud to announce the release of an interactive tool designed to help drivers understand all the penalties associated with out-of-state DUI / DWI convictions.
The tool prompts the user to select the state the individual was arrested in, as well as the state the individual is licensed in, and then displays, in two, easy-to-read columns, the penalties imposed by the driver’s home state, and the penalties imposed by the state the driver was driving in at the time of arrest.

DUI / DWI Laws: The Importance of Understanding Penalties
The penalties associated with a DUI / DWI conviction vary depending on several factors; however, drivers convicted of intoxicated driving will typically face fines, surcharges, license suspension and possibly jail time.
These penalties can become more complex when a driver is arrested on DUI / DWI charges outside of the state where he or she is licensed to drive.
For example, if a California driver is convicted of a first offense DWI in New Jersey then that driver will lose driving privileges in New Jersey for 3 months and will face other penalties associated with a New Jersey DWI. Additionally, California will impose a 30 day license suspension followed by a 5 month restricted license.
It is important for drivers to understand the potential consequences of an intoxicated driving conviction in his or her home state, as well as the state in which he or she was arrested.
The creator of this resource, DWI defense attorney Evan Levow said, “Too many people plead guilty immediately after being arrested for a DUI or DWI, despite the fact that the charges against them can be fought.”
Levow continued, “We believe that it is important for drivers throughout the country to understand the consequences of a guilty conviction when deciding whether or not to fight the charges against them. Drivers may not be aware that separate suspension and penalties will be levied by the driver’s home state, where penalties may be worse in the driver’s home state. An out of state defendant cannot accurately assess how to proceed in his or her case without knowing all of the consequences of a conviction for DWI.”
