Research also shows kids with healthy muscles fall asleep more quickly and wake up fewer times during the night. Strength training for kids can include somersaults and gymnastics, climbing on playground equipment, balancing along the edge of a curb or trying to walk along a chalk line on a driveway, and balancing on one foot at a time.
With that said, while cardio and strength training are both best done at least a few hours before going to bed, yoga and meditation can be done nearly immediately before going to bed. In fact, they can be worked directly into a bedtime routine. Kids can do calming breathing exercises and slow, gentle poses on their beds before they snuggle in to sleep, as many bedtime yoga poses involve lying down.
