Louisiana State Fire Marshal Warns Of E-Cigarette Explosions As E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Continue To Appear
May 25, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a recent article from The Times which discusses e-cigarette use increasing among Louisiana citizens. As the article notes, e-cigarette use has become an increasingly controversial topic, “While the debate continues as to whether vaping represents a healthier alternative to smoking, there are growing concerns surrounding the rising numbers of incidents where the practice, which requires the use of a battery-powered ‘cigarette’ device that heats and vaporizes a liquid tobacco substitute, has led to serious burn injuries.” Additionally, the article details, “It should be noted that the injuries sustained are not the result of inhaling the vapor produced, but rather from the lithium-ion batteries that power the devices.”
It does seem to many that, as e-cigarette use becomes increasingly popular, reports of e-cigarette battery explosions have also increased. The article also makes note of a recent incident which was reported to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office involving a man from Baton Rouge who allegedly suffered second and third-degree burns to both his leg and hand after his e-cigarette device battery exploded in his pocket. It notes that Fire Marshal investigators have heard of similar incidents as well, including one involving a Houma man who reportedly suffered from serious burns on his leg after his e-cigarette battery also exploded while in his pocket. The article states, “In contacting several hospital burn units, investigators were advised that a surprising number of people have been treated in the recent past for less-serious burns from the popular devices.”
These instances, however, are happening not just in Louisiana but across the United States as well. Lawsuits regarding damage suffered following e-cigarette explosions are being filed with increasing frequency.
