April 03, 2017 – – Cairns-based MacDonnells Law Senior Associate Catherine Ross has joined the Queensland Collaborative Law Executive Committee. This act5ion reflects a commitment to the practice of collaborative law.
Cairns QLD: MacDonnells Law are pleased to announce that Catherine Ross, Senior Associate has joined the Queensland Collaborative Law Executive Committee as a commitment to the relatively new practise of collaborative law. This type of marriage dissolution can be a holistic and cost effective way to separate or divorce, but may not suit every couple. Queensland Collaborative Law is the leading association for the collaborative law practice in the State, which currently includes more than 110 members.
According to Catherine Ross, speaking in a recent interview, “Collaborative law is an alternative dispute resolution process for separation and divorce without going to court, therefore minimising the stress on both parties and their children. Parties must agree to work cooperatively to manage their separation or divorce, which includes signing an agreement to avoid the threat of court proceedings.”
Collaborative law is rather new to Queensland, with the Queensland Collaborative Law group having been established in 2006, following the success of the alternative dispute resolution process in the United States and the United Kingdom. The Cairns family lawyers is invested in the process, thanks to the commitment of Catherine Ross.
The collaborative law process requires trained practitioners including counsellors, psychologists, lawyers, accountants and financial planners. This group of specialists take part in the financial and property settlement process in order to reach mutually agreeable outcomes between the parties. The law recognises that there are emotional, financial and legal needs of each individual, but parties might be required to come to a compromise of expectations or needs to reach the most agreeable solution.
With offices in Cairns, Brisbane and Townsville, MacDonnels Law is one of the largest independent practices in Queensland. There are five family lawyers, including two accredited specialists, ensuring that the law firm team can respond to family law needs of clients throughout Queensland.
