Mama Maria Wellness Clinics Expands Remote Facilities

June 06, 2015 – – Bart Haynes an advisory board member of Mama Maria Wellness Clinics is proud to announce the expansion of remote facilities for the non-profit organization.

About Mama Maria Clinics:

Mama Maria Clinics (MMC) provides innovative, sustainable healthcare to underserved African communities. An indigenous, community-centric solution, we are building an entirely new healthcare infrastructure designed to serve the poor of rural Africa.

Our clinics offer a comprehensive package of services that include primary care (e.g. malaria, vaccinations, childhood dieases, etc.) maternal/perinatal services, HIV/AIDS, TB prevention, education, and care. In addition our clinics provide emergency transport, health, and education.

Muhuru Bay Clinic was founded in August 2005 as MMC’s flagship clinic in Muhuru Bay which services approximately 15,000 people each year. This facility provides desperately needed healthcare to regions in northwestern Tanzania as well as the larger Nyatike and Migori districts. Utilizing its full-service laboratory and full-service pharmacy, Mama Maria Clinic in Muhuru Bay provides:

Primary care (e.g. malaria, typhoid, childhood immunizations, etc.)Perinatal and maternal servicesShort-term inpatient careEmergency transport/public health outreachHIV mother-child transmission preventionIntegrated HIV/AIDS testing, treatment, and careTB testing and treatment.

In addition to the Muhuru Bay location, we have also created a remote Lake Victoria Islands facility.

The isolated islands of Lake Victoria are woefully underserved in terms of healthcare and have little hope of showing up on any healthcare providers’ list in the future. MMC is dedicated to serving these communities, providing care to the most at-risk group that populate these islands — fishermen and women who have never before had health services available to them.

We have facilities on three different islands – Migingo Island, Kiwa Island, and Mboi Island- serving the inhabitants who live in these small, rugged communities diverse people who hail from the East African countries bordering the lake: Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. These clinics offer a scaled-down set of relevant services, available 24-hours a day.

Emergency Evacuation and Transport:

Realizing the limitations of specialty services offered at our facilities, the remote, often inaccessible locales of our Emergency Transport clients, and unreliability and cost of local transport, MMC provides a fast and safe transportation alternative for urgent or emergent situations, as well as for patients who may be in need of specialty care at another facility. Our goal is to ensure patient safety and decrease overall mortality and morbidity where emergency services are unavailable.

We provide urgent and emergency services for evaluation, initial treatment and triage for our patients at our clinicsWhere appropriate and indicated we offer emergency transportation to other health facilitiesWe aim to provide fast, affordable, and easy access to health facilities beyond the limits of our centers

“In working with the local leadership at the Mama Maria Clinic in Muhuru Bay, we have begun to open up more and more potential of ways to better serve the needs of the local community. We strive to blend the localized knowledge with creativity and imagination to offer innovative solutions.” – Bart Haynes
