Man Sustains Injuries From Exploding E-Cig As Seattle Hospitals Report More Cases Prompting Potential E-Cigarette Lawsuit Filings
July 17, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a Seattle Times news story that focuses on the number of victims from the Seattle area, that have sustained injuries or have been hospitalized because of exploding e-cigarettes. Since the fall of 2015, there have been 14 victims with the most recent happening on June 5th when a Kirkland man was severely injured due to his e-cig exploding in his back pocket. Unfortunately, the man suffered 3rd-degree burns on the back of one of his legs and may require skin grafting surgery to try to correct the damage sustained during the explosion. The Harborview Burn Center has treated 2 e-cig explosion victims during the month of June alone.
Since 2007 when e-cigarettes made their debut on the consumer market, the number of explosions has increased dramatically with 199 episodes being reported between 2009 and the present time. It should be noted that so far in 2016 there have been 77 explosions which are 30 more than the entire total for 2015. Explosions have occurred throughout the world in the United States, Europe, and Asia with 30 percent of them happening on the West Coast of America since 2009, which equates to 58 explosions.
Explosions have been reported to occur in a variety of ways including while the units are charging, while they are being used, or while being carried in the user’s pockets. Injuries from exploding e-cigs have ranged from serious burns, lacerations, and cuts, and some victims have even experienced a loss of vision, temporary blindness, or mutilation damage to limbs.
LipsigLawyers.com’s Marc Freund has addressed the recent Seattle explosions and finds the Seattle Times news story disconcerting. He states that e-cigs can hold hidden risks, and he wishes the victims speedy recoveries.
