Manhattan Beach-based Cancer Journeys Foundation Announced the 2018 Tour de USA for Cancer Survivors at the 2017 Miatas at Mazda Raceway event on October 8, 2017
October 11, 2017 – – MANHATTAN BEACH, CALIFORNIA — Manhattan Beach-based Cancer Journeys Foundation announced its 2018 Tour de USA for Cancer Survivors at Mazda Raceway in Laguna Seca at the 2017 edition of Miatas at Mazda Raceway on Sunday, October 8, 2017. The Tour de USA for Cancer Survivors begins in August 2018 in California and will drive 8,217 miles across the US and back to raise awareness and support for cancer survivors.
“There are more than 15 million cancer survivors living in the US and another American receives a cancer diagnosis every 19 seconds,” says Cancer Journeys Foundation President Robert Hess. “Once their active treatment programs are completed, there is little support for cancer survivors as they move into and through their lives as cancer survivors – their cancer journeys. That’s where we come in,” said Hess.
The 2018 Tour de USA for Cancer Survivors will depart California on August 1, 2018, travel to the east coast along the southern route through Texas and the Gulf states to Atlanta, Georgia, then up the eastern seaboard, and back to Los Angeles by way of the ProSolo National races in Lincoln, Nebraska, Portland, and down the California coast to Los Angeles. The relay rally will cover just over 8,000 miles in daily 200-mile segments. Drivers will be able to drive with the Cancer Journeys Foundation car on any segment and the rally’s location will be tracked in real-time on an Internet map.
“The Tour de USA will do for cancer survivorship what the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle ride did for Vietnam POWs,” said Hess. “We are going after a Guinness World Record for the Longest Charity Relay Road Rally. People interested in being part of this great event should sign up for the information list at www.TourdeUSA.Events.”
“We decided to announce the event last weekend at Mazda Raceway because we will be driving the Tour de USA in our Mazda MX-5 Miata and Miatas at Mazda Raceway pulls together almost 600 Miata drivers every year,” said Hess. “We have adopted the Mazda Miata as our official Tour de USA car for 2018 because it is such a joy to drive and the goal of our Foundation is to help cancer survivors find joy and peace as they move through their cancer journeys.”
