Mark Costley Elected to Board of Trustees of the NC Humanities Council
December 31, 2016 – Walker Lambe is honored to announce that Mark O. Costley has been elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina Humanities Council. Beyond the practice of law, the staff and attorneys at Walker Lambe Rhudy Costley & Gill, PLLC have dedicated themselves to the betterment of their community and to their fellow citizens. Such dedication is manifested in our partners’ election to key roles in the Triangle area that sustain and enrich our city and our region.
Mr. Costley stated that he is “tremendously excited to lead the North Carolina Humanities Council at a time when the value of the humanities is at a premium.” Current events have demonstrated that we need to understand each other and the world in which we live more accurately and fully. That is the essence of the humanities. Through the richness of literature, history, religion, philosophy, and a host of other disciplines falling under the umbrella of the humanities, we can celebrate and better understand the human condition.
The North Carolina Humanities Council is a state-wide nonprofit headquartered in Charlotte, NC. Its 24 member board consists of individuals throughout North Carolina whom actively advocate for the discovery and understanding of the interdisciplinary role that the humanities play in the culture, identity, and history of North Carolina. The NCHC receives substantial support from the National Endowment for the Humanities created by Congress, distributing more than $100,000 annually in grants aimed at promoting the humanities throughout North Carolina.
Mark obtained his bachelor’s degree and law degree from Duke University and has remained active with his alma mater in numerous capacities, including serving previously as a member of the Board of Trustees. His legal practice focuses on estate planning, trust and estate administration, planning for children and adults with special needs, business succession planning, and charitable familial and philanthropic counseling. Mark’s work involves elements of teaching, strategic analysis and planning, negotiation, documentation, and assisting clients in plan execution and he feels privileged to help his clients in these essential life decisions.
