Interior design of vintage Lake Shore Drive Apartment covered in 8-page spread in home décor and lifestyle magazine

The article was written by Sophisticated Living’s Amalie Drury with photography by Werner Straube. The piece goes into detail on how Erb worked with the owner, Dr. Séamas O’Driscoll, to make his living space feel connected to the neighborhood while allowing exterior light to create different interior moods throughout the day.

In Dr. O’Driscoll’s dining room, for example, Erb took advantage of the room’s large windows to highlight a large table with brutalist iron bases by Don Drumm. These support its smoked glass top, which are bordered by 24K hand-gilt edges by Armand Lee. Contrasting against white walls and a dark wood floor, the overall effect can range from light and airy in the daytime to intense and intimate in the evening.

Artwork plays a key role in the décor throughout the apartment. Erb and the owner collaborated closely with Jennifer Norback Fine Art to identify works that would accentuate the design intention in each room. “Art can be so important in achieving a particular experience of a living space,” Erb noted. “Some people think art is an afterthought… it’s really the opposite. Sometimes, we start with a work of art, like the contemporary painting in Dr. O’Driscoll’s living room, and design out from there.”
