Master Shower Doors announced the successful completion of the Home Builders Assocation of Delaware 2015 Ramp Build, a project to which the company was an active, important contributor. Having identified the Dover home of Vernon and Sandra Steele as an ideal recipient, the HBA/DE Associates Council tasked member organizations with donating the materials and labor needed to build a ramp that would allow easy access for the Air Force veteran. Master Shower Doors and a number of other HBA/DE members completed the challenging project successfully and on time, an act that will be commemorated by the Delaware Legislature at a ceremony to be led by Representative Bill Carson during the 2016 legislative session.

“We’re thrilled to report that the Steele home in Dover is now equipped with a high-quality Wheelchair Ramp,” Master Shower Doors representative Laura Majewski said, “We would like to thank our incredibly talented employees Mike Dawson and Rob Ferrier for helping out alongside co-owner Ron Taylor on site. Being able to give back to such a wonderful family and to the community in general is a real honor for all of us here at Master Shower Doors.”

Since its founding in 1947, the non-profit Home Builders Association of Delaware, or HBA/DE, has been a state-level affiliate of the nationwide National Association of Home Builders. The group is primarily tasked with educating the public and its member organizations as to home design, construction, and remodeling best practices, thereby elevating the level of the services that are available in the state.

In addition, HBA/DE has a long, productive record of arranging rewarding community service projects that are funded and undertaken by members. Approached by State Representative Bill Carson about wheelchair-bound veteran Vernon Steele’s challenges with accessing the home he owns with wife Sandra, the HBA/DE Associates Council pledged the full support of the group’s generous, community-oriented member organizations.

A months-long design process led by Gabe Cox, now a graduate of Hodgson Vo-Tech in Newark, established the plans for the ambitious project, plotting out a gently sloping, highly accessible ramp that runs a significant portion of the front side of the Steele home. With all of the necessary materials donated by members, a number of skilled volunteers completed the work over the course of several days.
