Matrix Home Health Care Specialists Participates in Apprenticeship Program

Matrix Home Health Care Specialists sponsorship allows two of its staff members to participate in the Health Support Specialist (HSS) Registered Apprenticeship program.

By 2020, direct health care workers will account for the largest occupational group in the United States. To prepare people entering the field, the largest association of organizations serving Minnesota seniors, Leading Age Minnesota, joined with Minnesota Department of Labor and the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation to create the Health Support Specialist (HSS) Registered Apprenticeship program.

Health care training for the elderly is just the first step in this career. To succeed, participants need the training benefits that traditional apprenticeship programs provide.

The HSS program combines online instruction with on-the-job training in all areas of caring for older adults, including memory care, culinary, environmental services, meaningful activities, physiological and psychosocial care.

Matrix Home Health Care Specialists is one of only two home care agencies in the state participating in the HSS program. It allows Matrix to invest in training quality employees while ensuring the highest quality of care for the people in their communities. Matrix pays for this ongoing training and certification.

Currently, two members of the Matrix staff have completed the preparatory coursework. They’ve now started the required hours to satisfy the apprenticeship program. The HSS curriculum is geared to enhance and further the careers of any Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
