Memorial For Construction Workers Prompts Comment From Construction Accident Lawyer

May 23, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman recently commented on a memorial service for construction workers held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Moverman stated that the solidarity expressed by the workers was both moving and sobering, noting that workers on construction sites are injured far too frequently and sometimes fatally.

The service, according to a report by Real Estate Weekly, is an annual event celebrated on Workers Memorial Day. This year’s mass welcomed both construction workers and their families as the ceremony was introduced by a bagpipe procession and was attended by Gary LaBarbera, President of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York, and other labor leaders.

According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), there are about 2.3 million construction workers in the United States at any given time. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 86 fatal injuries occurred in New York in 2014 that were related to construction and maintenance occupations. Twenty-four of those incidents involved contact with objects and equipment and 28 were because of falls, slips, and trips. Common injuries associated with construction accidents include lacerations, broken or fractured bones, spinal injuries and brain injuries.
