The Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival (BRJFF) has announced an off-season showing of the film “Menashe”. The screening is scheduled for September 14, 7:00 pm, at the Manship Theatre in Baton Rouge. This 2017 release is a gentle human comedy about a father-son relationship. Movie-goers that evening will also get an exclusive look at the trailers for the 2018 BRJFF scheduled to run in January.
More information can be found at http://brjff.com/Menashe.
The first movie in decades to be shot entirely in Yiddish, “Menashe” is the story of the eponymous Jewish grocery store clerk struggling to maintain custody of his son after the untimely death of his wife. The strict tradition-bound New York Hasidic Jewish community requires Rieven, the boy, to be adopted by his married uncle; however, Menashe’s Rabbi allows Rieven to spend a week with his father prior to his mother’s memorial. This valuable, albeit short time offers Menashe a chance to prove the community that he is a worthy parent while also bonding with his son in one of the most genuinely emotional stories in recent cinematography.
The Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival scheduled an off-season screening to provide the Baton Rouge community with a chance to enjoy this contemporary masterpiece, praised by critics as “a fascinating glimpse into a sequestered society,” “a gentle human comedy,” and “an intimate portrait of faith and fatherhood.”
Tickets are $6.50 and can be purchased by visiting the Manship Theatre at 100 Lafayette St.in Baton Rouge, by phone at 866.451.2787, or at the above-mentioned website.
Movie-goers who attend the screening will also be the first to see the trailers for BRJFF’s program of films for the 2018 edition of the prestigious festival.
The Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival is a local cultural institution dedicated to promoting quality Jewish cinematography to the local community. The 12th edition of the festival will run January 10-14, 2018 at the Manship Theatre. More details can be found at http://brjff.com.
