Miami Man Files E-Cig Lawsuit After He’s Burned By Battery Acid In E-Cigarette Explosion

May 25, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on an e-cigarette explosion that occurred in Miami in which a man was severely burned when the device exploded and sprayed battery acid on his face. CBS Miami reported in February that the man had been using his e-cigarette one morning when it exploded without warning. The battery acid spewed from the device, hitting his face and mouth. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was treated for severe burns to his face and battery acid in his esophagus and lungs. The man has since filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer.

With the increasing popularity of e-cigarettes, more users are beginning to file lawsuits following explosions. Recently, a Southern California man also filed a lawsuit concerning the e-cigarettes after an explosion of his device cost him his eye. The debris that became projectile from the explosion broke his orbital and sinus bones and there is still shrapnel in his eye. His attorney has called for regulation of the devices.

The FDA has recently made moves to have the devices regulated along with other tobacco products such as pipes, cigars, and cigarettes. According to FEMA, about 2.5 million Americans use e-cigarettes. The agency also stated that between 2009 and 2014, at least 25 incidents were reported by mainstream media involving e-cigarette explosions. The actual number is estimated to be much higher due to the unknown number of unreported events.
