Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition Features The Last Judgment
Dallas, 11/23/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/
Michelangelo’s frescoes at the Sistine Chapel are considered a masterpiece without precedent, most famously featuring The Last Judgment, executed on the altar wall. The Last Judgment vividly portrays The Second Coming of Christ. Surrounded by numerous saints, Christ judges and sends human souls to their final judgment.
Work to prepare the altar wall began in 1535; the fresco took four years to complete between 1536 and 1541. Michelangelo started working on it 25 years after he finished the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
“We know that the theme of the Last Judgment is extremely important in the Catholic Church,” says Martin Biallas, CEO of Special Entertainment Events Inc., producer of the exhibition. “Often, a church will have a fresco or mosaic of the Last Judgment on the back (western) wall, so that the faithful, as they leave the services, are reminded that they will be judged by what they do during this earthly life. We have brought this iconic imagery to Dallas for many to see firsthand.”
On display through Jan. 8, 2017, at the Women’s Museum at Fair Park, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition features 16-foot brilliantly illuminated panels, with outstanding resolution, clarity and color, including The Creation of Adam and the 40×41-foot rendition of The Last Judgment.
Dallas reviews have called the exhibition “enjoyable … it’s bright, bold, and overwhelming” and “an innovative interpretation of the timeless masterpieces.”
Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition, co-produced by Beau Ioana of Giobeau Productions and Dallas-based Rafael Luna of Strategic Events, makes available a fully narrated audio tour (available in English and Spanish) that provides insight behind each and every panel on display.
