Flint Michigan, United States – November 30, 2016 /PressCable/ —
Charter Health Care Training Center in Flint, Michigan has announced the launch of a new pharmacy technician training program. Open House will be Thursday, December 1, 2016 1:00 – 6:00 PM, and the first class will start January 3rd, 2017.
This course will prepare students for entry level jobs in various pharmacy practice settings. Participants in the program will enjoy a course that was especially created to meet the Accreditation Standards for Pharmacy Technician Education and Training Programs established by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
In addition to learning in a stimulating and interactive classroom environment, students will get hands on experience in a state of the art pharmacy simulation lab. Students will also get key practice at preparing prescriptions in a setting that replicates community and hospital pharmacy settings.
Directing the program will be Ms. Dena Scully, who graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint in 2011, where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, a minor in Communications, and was recipient of the Maize and Blue Distinguished Scholar Award.
Her career as a Certified Pharmacy Technician brings 30 years of experience in a variety of practice settings including retail, hospital and managed care. Ms. Scully has been a member of the Michigan Pharmacists Association for 14 years and served on the Michigan Society of Pharmacy Technicians (MSPT) Executive Committee from 2006-2011, including as its president in 2007. She was recently elected to serve on the MSPT Executive Committee again for a 3 year term beginning January 2017.
Said Ms. Scully “This is an exciting time to be a pharmacy technician! Pharmacists are being used in more clinical roles, and this has opened up numerous opportunities for technicians to expand the types of roles they can fill. New pharmacy technician positions are being created all the time.”
She went on to say “Our new pharmacy simulation lab provides the opportunity for our students to receive valuable training in aseptic technique, a practice used to make sterile IV compounds. This skill is highly desired by hospital pharmacy employers.”
Upon completing the program, students will have all the necessary skills and preparation needed to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam offered through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Further, students will have ample opportunities to take practice exams that will help prepare them to succeed on the national exam.
