Mick’s Announces Ant Prevention Methods and Removal Services

Preventing or removing ants from your home involves identifying the type of ant, eliminating food sources, and sealing off potential ant entrances. Use an exterminator if those methods fail.

St. Louis, Missouri (March 22, 2018) – Mick’s Exterminating is announcing timely services to help homeowners and landlords deal with ants. These insects return in the spring due to warm weather so consumers should be aware of how an exterminator can deal with them. Using exterminator services can prevent ants from destroying food, ruining wood, and spreading disease.

There isn’t one blanket approach to ants. They come in a variety of types and each of these invades a home in different ways, causing different problems. Mick’s will first figure out what type of ant they are dealing with. In Missouri, Mick’s has found the two most common types are carpenter ants and odorous house ants. Carpenter ants are bigger than most others, and have a distinct brown color (as opposed to the common black or red.) Mick’s recommends removing these types immediately so they aren’t given the time to weaken wooden structures. Odorous house ants appear more in line with the common small, black bug we’re used to. These bugs make up for their lack of size with a tendency to multiply where there is a food source, using numbers to infest hidden spaces.

Mick’s Exterminating looks to save their consumers time and money so their first recommendations are for clients to take a proactive, preventative approach. The first instruction is to eliminate food sources by removing crumbs and sealing food in containers. The other recommendation is to seal off the entrances that ants use to gain access, which can be done with caulk, putty, or glue. Chemicals from an exterminator are recommended as well, but a layer of duct tape with the sticky side up works in a pinch if there aren’t more official versions available. Mick’s will even give a free estimate so consumers know if they can afford total protection from ants.

Mick and Jan Ostrander founded this company over 40 years ago and their son Matt is now the president. His team of exterminators are some of the most knowledgeable in Missouri because they are all state certified after taking a training class from Missouri’s Department of Agriculture. Mick’s is a proud member of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), a national non-profit agency that upholds sound practices in the pest control industry.
