Minnesota Construction Accident Generates Comments From Construction Accident Lawyer
June 19, 2016 – – Thomas Moverman of LipsigLawyers.com has commented on a recent development that occurred on June 13th that left a local man fatally wounded. Moverman sends his condolences to the victim’s family. Attorney Moverman also notes that there is no dollar amount that can replace an individual’s father, or husband, or brother. Additionally, he hopes that federal regulators will recognize this tragedy, along with the growing frequency of construction accidents to understand the importance of implementing further rules and regulations for construction employees.
As reported by a local ABC news affiliate, KAALTV.com that afternoon of June 13th a 28-year-old man was crushed during a trench collapse. The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office indicates that they received a call for assistance at 2:45 p.m., and arrived at the scene of the accident shortly after to discover a man buried underneath a collapsed trench. It took local authorities just under 5 hours to recover the man, due to difficulty from the unstable ground. The victim’s name has not been released yet, but medical examiners have confirmed he is from out of state.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were nearly 5,000 worker deaths while on the job in 2014. On average the BLS indicate that there are on average greater than 92 deaths per week. Construction worker deaths made up nearly 20 percent of the total work-related fatalities in 2014, equating to nearly 900 hard-working construction workers sustaining fatal injuries while on the job in 2014.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) indicate that approximately 58 percent of construction deaths occur as a result of construction’s ‘Fatal Four.’ The ‘Fatal Four’ are the top four causes of death to construction workers in the United States and include worker fatalities from falls, electrocutions, being struck by an object, or being caught in or in between equipment. In 2014, the ‘Fatal Four’ took the lives of 518 construction workers.
