Missouri IVC Filter Lawsuit Plaintiff Alleges Defective Filter Device Caused Husband’s Death
April 22, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on the details of a concerning lawsuit which has been filed by a widow against IVC filter manufacturer C.R. Bard referencing their filter device. The lawsuit was filed by a widow in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The woman states that her husband has died after a surgically implanted IVC filter tilted within his body, causing it to insufficiently prevent blood clots from traveling toward the man’s lungs and heart.
IVC filters are cage-like devices which are surgically implanted into patients who are found to be at increased risk for the development of blood clots, but who cannot take traditional blood-thinning medications. The filters are implanted directly into patients’ inferior vena cava veins, which travel from the lower body and leg area toward the lungs and heart. They are placed here to catch and hold potential blood clots until they dissipate, so that they are unable to travel toward the heart or lungs and cause pulmonary embolism or other dangerous complications.
In further details of the lawsuit, the plaintiff states that her husband was surgically implanted with a G2 IVC filter from C.R. Bard in November of 2006. After the initial implantation, however, the filter allegedly tilted within the man’s inferior vena cava, which caused it to perforate the vein and allow blood clots to pass from his lower body toward his heart and lung area. The man died in September of 2012 after suffering from a fatal blood clot development.
Manufacturer C.R. Bard has been accused by multiple plaintiffs from across the nation of producing a medical device that is defective and dangerous. The company is reportedly currently facing around 50 lawsuits which have been filed in reference to their G2 and Recovery brand IVC filters. Complaints filed against C.R. Bard been centralized to a single court in an Arizona federal litigation.
