The field of English language learning is extremely complex, with educators exploring new methods of teaching and learning to meet the needs of the increasingly multicultural school environments.
Language Lizard, LLC strives to provide educational resources for multilingual and multicultural learners throughout the US and Canada. The company has recently launched a series of ELL charts to help students learn a variety of English terms in various fields by using an interactive audio-visual method.
The chart can be used with the aid of the PENpal Audio Recorder Pen, a special tool allowing children to listen to explanations for each word in the chart.
The Language Lizard charts feature an easy-to-access design providing students with explanations for terms in English, geography, mathematics and science. Explanations are provided in more than 40 languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Polish, Turkish and many others.
To hear an explanation for a word, students use the PENpal pen to select a language from the right side of the chart, and then browse through various categories, listening to explanations by touching the chart with the special pen.
The charts feature various terms from academic fields that are relevant to multiple age levels, including English terms such as “alliteration”, “figurative”, and “narrator”, geography terms such as “erosion”, “latitude” and “estuary”, Mathematics terms like “fraction” and “symmetry” and many others.
“We aim to promote multilingual learning in multicultural contexts, and our charts are invaluable resources for teachers who support a linguistically diverse student body.”, declared Anneke Forzani, President of Language Lizard.
