Multiple Workers Wounded In NYC Worksite Fire, Causing Personal Injury Lawyer To Call For Increased Safety Protocols
August 02, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on statistics released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) related to the number of non-fatal illnesses and injuries suffered by American workers. The agency states that there were almost 3 million injuries and illnesses sustained on the job in 2014. One-third of ill or injured workers missed 1 day of work but the average time absent from work due to nonfatal injury or illness was 9 days.
Recently an accident occurred where non-fatal injuries resulted as reported by DNAInfo.com. Workers at a Midtown NY construction site located at 390 Madison Avenue and 47th Street suffered injuries when a transformer caught fire on June 7th in the basement of the building. The 4 construction workers were sent to local medical facilities and luckily only had to be treated for minor injuries. The workers were employed by Tishman Construction and were working on an office tower reconstruction project.
Thomas Moverman, an attorney with Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman praised local firefighters and their quick response time which prevented the fire from becoming much more serious and life-threatening. He also took the opportunity to encourage federal regulators to develop stronger safety rules and regulations for construction workers.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is a federal agency that oversees the health and safety of over 130 million workers in the United States. However, the agency is understaffed with only 2,200 safety inspectors monitoring over 8 million work sites and each inspector is responsible for over 59,000 workers.
Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman have been representing victims of construction accidents for years. In one case, Attorney Thomas Moverman won a victim $2.6 million for a worker who injured his knee and back in a fall from defective scaffolding. The firm has successfully obtained millions in settlements for those victims and strongly believes in fighting for the compensation victims need and deserve. Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman is currently looking to assist those individuals who have been injured in a construction accident and qualifying individuals may be entitled to financial compensation.
