Opiates addiction is on the rise because what starts as a simple prescription for back pain is ending in overdoses and suicides, at least for many Americans, and especially the millennial crowd. Addiction is one of the largest threats to America right now. With around 90% of Americans going without treatment, and $442 BILLION spent on addiction annually (twice that of diabetes), many of them are beginning as teens and it’s becoming epidemic.
Many wonder what Trump will do about this and if Trump’s appointment of Chris Christie as opiate advisor help out. Dean Stojic, founder of LiveFreeTraining.org, suggests that things are going to change, and in a big way up or down, depending on what the POTUS does next.
Trump’s platform was of protecting our youth, reversing the inner city blight for minorities, and keeping America safe. He even addressed congress saying, “We will stop the drugs from pouring into our country and poisoning our youth — and we will expand treatment for those who have become so badly addicted.”
Trump himself has a little history with Tara Conner via his beauty pageants who he worked with and supported her recovery. Chris Christie does too, having lost a lifelong friend who apparently had it all, according to nbc.
A promise to make a difference, and a personal connection of the key players in understanding how devastating opiates are on American lives, appears to be a positive combination. Well, throwing more money into a broken system is a step in the right direction, but doesn’t necessarily help much. Dean Stojic from LiveFreeTraining.org has observed that clinics seem to be in the “retention business” because long-term success is so low. This means patients are likely to come for a treatment more than once, more often than not.
And he’s right; the chance of relapsing is very high within first year alone. The near $30,000.00 per patient spent on each and every vacation style rehab center just isn’t keeping patients clean long-term, and the repeat visits are costing America over and over again for a treatment plan that isn’t working.
Many hardcore Americans are losing sympathy for the addicted, thinking sheer will power or better parenting could take care of the problem. But opiates and addiction in general goes way deeper than that. This isn’t something that a person can break on their own. When the body is literally addicted, the brain will do whatever it takes to feed that fix. These pills are costing lives and are harming America, and something needs to change.
“The problem isn’t really in the centers treatment methods, but in the location of the rehab. They are attracting patients to beautiful locations with great living conditions like in South Florida, aka Rehab Paradise among the Palm trees. With warm weather and sandy beaches, rehab is like 28 days of bliss,” says Stojic.
“Therein lies the problem, trying to treat something out of the environment where you acquired the addiction is akin to going on vacation to save your marriage. It’s great for a week, but when you get back home the same problems arise again. This is why the failure rate is so high”.
When asked why patients relapse back to their same old addiction habits when they get back into their original environment, Stojic explains, “They have the same triggers, the same friends, same challenges and same stresses… naturally, before you know it most of them go back to using. This is where the problem lies: The typical therapy being offered is basing its success on an environment change, not the ‘in-viroment’ where the patient became addicted. This is what we focus on, we treat our patients from their home where they have to live day to day, and stay clean and are seeing great results because of it.”
Two items should be considered in determining what should be done:
1. The cost of treatment.
2. The effectiveness of that treatment.
As an alternative to the traditional rehab that so often fails, consider looking into groundbreaking Neuro restructuring techniques that help reprogram the mind for recovery. It’s an online treatment that costs nearly 10X less than a rehab center, treats people in their location, and is available to those who would like to keep their privacy intact (which isn’t possible with a large insurance claim) or can’t get away from work for a month to take care of themselves. Theoretically, the 90% who go without treatment for privacy, or lack of insurance reasons, could receive treatment. That’s over 20+ Million Americans.
Looking at the numbers, the nation’s addiction problem is not going away. The recent rise in opioids, pain pills and heroin, addiction and deaths are bleak evidence that the issue has grown. When binge drinking on college campuses is added to that, it shows that we need new ways to attack the problem.
If President Trump backs a National Addiction Recovery bill, in addition to looking at costs along with the effectiveness of the treatments, more Americans could be treated, and also the success rate of those going through treatment would increase.
