Recently, Morning Joe Scarboro and his guests began a conversation about moving immigrant children who cannot be matched with their parents into an English Speaking Only Foster Care System.

With more than 437,000 American children currently in foster care, the Trump Administration may flood the already overcrowded system with up to two thousand-plus potentially traumatized children who don’t speak English and have been forced apart from their parents and thrust into prison-like detention centers. More people are wondering how foster care for undocumented immigrants works, and how they might be able to host a refugee child. Those seeking guidance on the unaccompanied refugee minors program will want to have an expert to help them navigate the system, especially if they want to prepare to foster a teenager.

James Poindexter III, CC author of the Amazon best seller Your Amazing Itty Bitty® Foster Care and Adoptive Parents Guide, is a former child of foster care. He entered the system at the age of 10 after much abuse and being abandoned by his biological parents when they moved out and left him home alone. He moved 21 times in next 5 years before finding a family who would keep him until he aged out of the system.

His foster parents allowed him to enter karate as part of his anger management program. During the next 8 years he won 7 National Karate Championships, became a member of the United States Martial Arts Team, won the World Martial Arts Championships and silver-medaled at the Goodwill Games and the World Cup. He also went on to graduate from college with two degrees and now has his own business, JH Brands, training parents, mentoring youth and speaking professionally about overcoming obstacles and how to think and live like a champion.

James is an expert on the trauma of child abuse and abandonment, with a strong understanding of the up- and down- side of the foster care system and the potential outcome of the “Zero Tolerance Policy” of the Trump Administration for those children who will not be reunited with their biological parents.

As more immigrant children move into the foster care system, more people may be wondering how to become a foster parent for an immigrant child. They will need guidance and expert advice on the process of fostering a child, especially one who has come in to the system as a result of Zero Tolerance. As one foster parent says, “Having someone like James who understands and aids that journey has been a blessing. We would highly recommend anyone going through this process to find someone like James to help their child, especially if the child is in their teen years.”

James can be contacted at 415-966-7601.

His best selling book is available on Amazon.
