The latest episode of Recovery ReLOVution teaches listeners about intervention … what it is … and what it isn’t. And, listeners will be introduced to types of intervention that are probably unfamiliar.
The host, Dr. Gala Gorman, says, “Many people living with an addict wonder how to do an intervention with someone they love … or even how to stage an intervention for addiction. If someone is struggling with addiction, they may even find themselves watching the show on television, “Intervention,” and hoping for answers or insight.”
Sometimes a formal intervention is the only way to stop addictive behavior. But, stopping the behavior is not what’s needed in the long term. It’s important to approach intervention with a long-term mindset.
In this episode, listeners will learn:
– About the different types of intervention
– How interventions can be used to help family members seek treatment
– How to prepare for an intervention for a loved one
Gorman refers to an article on the Huffington Post, to demonstrate how intervention shows up in countless ways. In the article, a scholar discussed the risks of military intervention. “Military intervention with limited objectives, while difficult, may sometimes be appropriate. But changing a nation’s history and culture and establishing the institutions of representative government which, after all, took hundreds of years in this country is a formidable challenge. America’s leaders should undertake such an effort only when our objectives are clear, our vital interests are clearly at stake, and they have confidence that the political will and resources will be available for the long slog.”
As Dr. Gala points out, there are several things in the article that correlate perfectly with addiction, recovery, and intervention. One aspect is that the problems took hundreds of years to evolve. And, they are not just going to be reversed overnight. The same thing is true for using intervention with addiction. An intervention alone isn’t going to solve the problem.
Gorman says, “We’ve got to know that the resources are available for a long-term approach to recovery, which is going to require that the problem be addressed from a number of different angles. It’s important when thinking about intervention to recognize that, as the system is disrupted, problems appear in a different light. And, there may be more problems to address than originally thought.”
The Recovery ReLOVution show was created with the aim in mind to help family and friends of addicts restore peace and sanity to their world. Listeners now have an alternative to doing the same thing expecting a different result … the definition of insanity.
The show urges listeners to stretch themselves. The show’s tagline reflects this. Love the Addict. Outsmart the Addiction. Listeners, primarily Recovery Stakeholders, will likely find a particular interest since it’s difficult to avoid shaming their addict loved one.
When asked why she created the show, Gorman said, “Shaming just adds fuel to addiction’s fire. There is an alternative.”
The show’s host, Dr. Gala Gorman, is a holistic life coach and minister. She is the author of the Spiritual Approach TM Series of books focused on practical spirituality. As an entrepreneur … mediator, publisher and, formerly, accounting firm partner, her experiences helped shape the creation of the show. As a change facilitator, she ignites transformation in businesses, families, students, clients and, especially, within herself.
Gorman has hopes that the show will help Recovery Stakeholders learn to set and hold effective boundaries to ignite positive change … in themselves and their loved one who is struggling with addiction.
