New Jersey Family Files Zofran Lawsuit Alleging The Drug Caused Clubfoot

April 04, 2016 – – Zofranlegal.com has announced that the parents of a young boy are choosing to pursue legal action against drug manufacturers GlaxoSmithKline. They filed a lawsuit originally in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey under case number 2:15-cv-04536-JLL-JAD, however, the case was moved to the District of Massachusetts with hundreds of others to be consolidated into MDL 2657.

The complaint reveals that the mother took every precaution, both prior to her pregnancy and during. She began taking prenatal vitamins six months before becoming pregnant, does not drink caffeine or alcohol, and requested that her doctor perform antepartum testing – all of which returned within normal limits. After she became pregnant, she was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition which is considered a very severe form of morning sickness. Patients often experience severe extended bouts of nausea and vomiting which can put both the mother and unborn child at risk.

She was admitted to the hospital and treated intravenously with Zofran. She continued the medication orally every six hours for the rest of her pregnancy. Her son was born on September 24th, 2011. Doctors immediately diagnosed him with a congenital birth defect called clubfoot. Both of his feet were internally rotated at the ankle.

Since his birth, the boy has undergone treatments for the condition including the painful manipulation of the tendons, ligaments, and joints by physicians, plaster casts, and a tenotomy. His parents claim that he has suffered tremendous physical pain as well as emotional trauma due to his condition.

Their complaint is just one of more than 230 which have been filed against GSK. Other parents have claimed that the drug caused defects such as atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, transposition of the greater vessels, kidney defects, respiratory distress syndrome, and cleft lip and palate.

New cases are being filed regularly and the lawyers at Monheit Law are working to ensure that anyone who believes their child was harmed by the drug Zofran understands their legal options. To learn more, contact the firm at 877-620-8411.
