The seventh of eight books Auxier has authored, There I Wuz! Volume 3 sets its main focus on stand-alone, true short stories from the pilot’s perspective. The anthology was written with the aim in mind to provide first-hand true stories from both the airline and military fighter cockpit, to entertain and educate aviation and “avgeek” enthusiasts in a wholesome way. There’s also particular excitement about this launch because it is the third volume in the popular series, and the first to feature military pilots. Readers will likely find a particular interest in the evolution of fighter tactics between F4 Phantom pilot and contributing author, Lt. Commander Leland Shanle and F22 Raptor pilot and contributing author, Major Rob Burgon. The book’s cover art was created by the Auxier himself, and There I Wuz! Volume 3 is being released by EALiterary Press.

Eric Auxier has a background of nearly 40 years of flying, with over 25 of that for a major U.S. airline, as well as nearly two decades in the Captain’s seat. He is also a Columnist for the popular Airways Magazine, published in over 60 countries worldwide, and its online counterpart, airwaysmag.com. This helped shaped the creation of the book by experiencing a rich history of exciting adventures behind the control yoke of his various airplanes.

When asked about why he wrote the book, Auxier said: “With the ‘There I Wuz!’ series, up till now, I’ve been mainly focusing on my own flying experience, and that of my fellow civilian airline aviators. For this volume, I thought it was time to highlight the military fighter jock.”

Auxier has hopes that the book will create a deeper appreciation and understanding of what goes on in the cockpit, for both military and civilian pilots alike, and perhaps inspire a future generation of pilots. This positive outlook from the author is certainly testament to his optimism considering some of the mishaps during its creation. At one point in his career, for example, Auxier found himself stranded and penniless in a third world country, subsisting on cocoanuts and betting the farm on the dim hope of landing a local pilot job a month away. The gamble paid dividends, and launched his career. Volume 3 features this humorous tale in the article, “Pilots of the Caribbean.”

In a recent interview, the author made a point of thanking his fellow contributors, such as Boeing 747 Captain and humorist Alan Carter, as well as Qantas A380 Captain and “QF32” author Richard de Crespigny for their part in the creation of the book, saying: “I am especially grateful to Captain Richard de Crespigny for his very thoughtful Foreword. Captain de Crespigny landed his crippled A380 after an engine explosion knocked out nearly all systems. We talk in detail about his ordeal in the very first article in the book, entitled, ‘Black Swan Event’.”
