New Social Enterprise Preemie Power Offers Food, Clothing and Moral Support to Parents of Premature Infants
In the U.S. almost one in ten infants is born before 37 weeks, the natural pregnancy term. A preterm infant, or preemie, may suffer from a number of neurological ailments including visual impairment, hearing impairment, or cerebral palsy. Complications from premature birth is also the leading cause of death among infants according to the World Health Organization.
Although the U.S. possesses some of the finest neonatal care facilities in the world, many parents of preemies are overlooked. These parents often spend days, weeks or, even, months alongside their infant in an Intensive Care Unit. This can create an enormous amount of hardship for families; many have to forego their jobs, live off of cafeteria food and ignore household responsibilities.
A new foundation entitled Preemie Power intends to aid these forgotten parents. Preemie Power will provide food, clothing, hygiene products, and counseling to young parents as they await the fate of their newborn. Founded by Chandinee Segobind, the mother of four preterm children, Preemie Power will strive to help young parents as they endure through this unforeseen ordeal.
While Preemie Power can make a lasting difference in the lives of numerous families, it needs your assistance to begin its mission. Chandinee has sponsored a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo to secure the financial support to procure initial supplies, build a website, obtain insurance and organize a fundraiser. In return for supporting this historic project, you can obtain a discount on tax preparation services through Chandinee’s firm Perfect Taxes.
