Off Season Training Lends Hope For Miami Dolphin O-Line

Despite a potential career ending injury, Pro-Bowl, Offensive Line Tackle for the Miami Dolphins, Branden Albert, is expected to return for the 2015 NFL Season following intense rehab and off-season training.

In early November of the 2014 NFL Season, Dolphin fans cringed as they watched the blind-side blocker for Quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, go down clutching his right knee. Offensive Line Tackle, Branden Albert suffered a severe MCL and ACL rupture and was, at the very least, done for the season. Due to the timing of the injury, the Dolphin coaching staff feared the worst for their pro-bowl acquisition’s return for the next season.

As the 2015 NFL Draft nears, Miami Dolphin coaches and staff are now confident of Albert’s return following the surgery to repair the pro-bowl Tackle’s knee and are focusing their draft attention elsewhere. At this point, Albert isn’t expected to participate in on-field workouts this spring, continuing his rehab and off-season training, but is expected to be ready for the 2015 season.

“When you get there and you’re at the top of your game, and something like this happens, it’s like, ‘Damn, I was at the top of my game, doing good. The team was doing good,'” Albert told Kevin Patra of Around the NFL on April 12. “My thing is proving my worth. I never wanted to come down here and have somebody say, ‘Well, he shut it down when he got paid.’ That’s not what I’m about. I want to keep winning, keep making Pro Bowls, All-Pros, and keep improving.”

The Miami Dolphin coaching staff and management are pleased with the progress Albert has made towards his return and anticipate a “new and improved” offensive line in 2015.

“When Branden Albert is healthy and at 100%, he is the best Left Tackle in the NFL,” commented Albert’s trainer, Manning Sumner. “He is an athlete at the position and has a tremendous punch to keep guys away from Tannehill. He has approached his rehab and strength training with the same intensity as on game day.”

Sumner, one of the NFL’s most sought after off-season trainers, has been working diligently with the athlete to get him back to “Pro-Bowl” shape. Training Albert in addition to Miami O-line guard, Dallas Thomas, Sumner believes Tannehill should feel a bit more safe in the pocket this season.

“Hopefully, Dallas Thomas can play along side Branden at Left Guard to solidify the left side of the line,” Sumner added. “He has been training five days a week since January, making huge strength gains, along with a much faster first step, not to mention being in the best shape of his young career.”

Owner of Legacy Fit, the number one personal and professional training facility in Miami, Sumner has been instrumental in the off-season conditioning of many professional athletes in addition to the rehabilitation of the injured. Despite the competition on the field, NFL players from teams across the league are content to share the training skills of Sumner.

“It’s kind of odd to be strength training key players from the Dolphin O-Line at the same time I’m helping to increase the strength and closing speed of Cleveland Browns Cornerback, Joe Haden,” Sumner said with a grin. “It makes watching the NFL very interesting when two of my clients are going head to head.”

Sumner is also working with current high dollar Oakland Center, Rodney Hudson, in addition to Green Bay Linebacker, Julius Peppers and Defensive Tackle Ricky Jean Francois of the Washington Redskins. Despite the increase in NFL players seeking his services, Sumner doesn’t limit his clientele to the NFL or professional athletes.

“I’m not strictly a ‘pro’ trainer,” Sumner added. “My philosophy and mantra, ‘No Days OFF‘, is all about being the best you can be at all times and that applies to everyone. Legacy Fit is filled every day with people who want to be their best. Our staff and trainers, myself included, are here to help make that happen whether you’re Branden Albert or just someone wanting to live a healthier lifestyle.”

Founded in 2008, Legacy Fit quickly became the top fitness facility in Miami, named the best Miami gym by New Miami Times in 2013. Currently, Sumner is offering franchise opportunities of Legacy Fit in South Florida, with the possibility of expansion to national franchising.
