Ohio Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Allege Manufacturers Are Responsible For Life-Threatening Injuries Suffered

April 19, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on a lawsuit which was filed against Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a division of Johnson & Johnson) discussing the anticoagulant drug they manufacture, Xarelto. The complaint was filed by a married couple from Ohio who claim that the blood thinner caused the wife to suffer from a life-threatening internal bleed. The couple has requested over $150,000 in compensation for both current and future medical bills, as they state that the bleed’s side effects are still felt by the woman today, and will require long-term medical care.

Further details of the lawsuit indicate that the plaintiff was prescribed Xarelto (rivaroxaban) by a doctor as treatment for her atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition which can put patients at increased risk for strokes. When the plaintiff began taking Xarelto to prevent strokes, however, after just two months, she suddenly developed a severe gastrointestinal bleed as well as anemia, and multiple other injuries which were left unspecified.

Xarelto was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011, and is intended to treat patients recovering from hip and knee replacement surgeries as well as those suffering from atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism. Since its initial FDA approval, the blood thinner has been given two “black box” warnings by the agency, which are the most strict product warnings possible short of removing it fully from the market.

Many others join these Ohio plaintiffs in making similar claims against Xarelto. Today, the drug has become the topic of more than 3,400 lawsuits filed by plaintiffs across the nation. These plaintiffs commonly claim that use of the anticoagulant places patients at increased risk for the development of dangerous bleeding events, some of which have proven fatal. Plaintiffs also allege that manufacturers failed to properly inform the public and medical professionals of the significant dangers the drug could pose.

As plaintiffs involved in current Xarelto lawsuits await trial, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to help others who have taken Xarelto and who believe that the drug caused them health complications. Affected parties could be entitled to legal action and significant compensation. Because of this, Attorney Osborne is encouraging everyone who believes they were affected to take the opportunity to fully evaluate their legal rights in the matter. Those who wish to explore their rights further are also now offered free legal consultations at this time.
