Oklahoma Teen Burned By Exploding E-Cig As Lawsuit Numbers Climb

May 15, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a recent incident in which a 19-year-old man was burned when his e-cigarette’s battery exploded in his pocket. According to AOL News, the man described the incident by stating, “Imagine a fountain firework going off in your pocket…There were flames shooting out of my pocket and down my leg.” The teen suffered second and third-degree burns after having to cut his pants off his body to minimize the pain, the article said.

His is not a unique case for some e-cigarette users. Other cases of e-cigarettes exploding in users’ pockets have also been reported. One recent incident was reported in Queens where a woman claims her e-cigarette exploded in her jeans pocket while she was parking her car. The device exploded with such force that it ripped her jeans along with some of the skin on her knee. The woman said she plans to sue the battery manufacturer and the shop where she bought it.

An e-cigarette also called a personal vaporizer (PV) or electronic nicotine delivery system, is a battery-powered device that simulates tobacco smoking by producing a heated vapor, which resembles smoke, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency( FEMA). The devices contain a lithium-ion battery which can sometimes overheat causing an explosion that can seriously injure the user or others when it catches fire or pieces become projectile. Though the FDA does not currently regulate e-cigarettes, they have made moves to regulate them in relation to their use of tobacco.

The devices have become increasingly popular and are now used by 2.5 million Americans. As more cases of exploding e-cigarettes arise, attorneys are taking cases to assist those who have been injured.

Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman are currently looking to assist those individuals. Attorneys such as Marc Freund are working to ensure that those who have been injured by the devices are able to explore their legal rights fully. Certain individuals may be entitled to significant financial compensation. Attorney Freund is currently offering free consultations to anyone who has been injured by the devices.
