Oklahoma Teen Suffers Burns From E-Cig Explosion, As Potential E-Cigarette Lawsuit Cases Rise

July 21, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a local news story from KSN.com about a 19-year old Oklahoma City man who sustained injuries from an exploding e-cigarette on April 19th. The young man suffered third-degree burns to his hands and legs after his e-cig ignited in his pocket. The victim attempted to propel the burning battery away from him but it stuck on his glove. The victim said he has experienced intense pain; unlike any he has had before. In this case, and unlike many others, the Oklahoma City Vapor Lounge where the e-cig was purchased does notify e-cig users of potential dangers of the devices. The owner also stated that many first-time users do not know about the risks associated with e-cig use.

It should be noted that this incident is the 8th explosion to happen in Oklahoma since 2009. The state’s total put it in the top 3 states with the highest number of reported explosions currently, as per a detailed timeline developed by TheProductLawyers.com. Oklahoma’s total of 8 is the third highest preceded by California with 19 and Arizona with 11. There has been a dramatic increase in the number of explosions in the last 3.5 years with yearly totals increasing from 28 in 2013 to 77 so far in 2016. As the popularity of e-cigarette devices increases it is expected that the number of e-cig related explosions will increase as well.

Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman, commented on the Oklahoma City explosion that left the 19-year old youth with severe burn injuries. Freund wished the victim a speedy and full recovery and stated that the victim was very lucky that he was at work wearing gloves or his injuries may have been much worse.
