As a company spokesperson for Optimal Health & Wellness noted, Champion Academy is a mentoring program for at-risk middle and high school students with one key mission in mind: to inspire kids toward academic excellence, leadership and to be productive global citizens.

The 12-month long, 3-year pilot program is devoted to helping students improve their lives and succeed through a combination of peer and group mentorship.

“The program begins with a 2-week Summer Orientation in which students become engaged, inspired, and motivated,” the spokesperson said, adding that the program continues throughout the year and uses a variety of student-centered strategies that are designed to rival the unhealthy influences in their lives.

Although Champion Academy was launched by someone with a great deal of experience playing football, the program is not a football camp or sports program. Instead, the focus of Champion Academy is to build character, increase focus and help the kids develop the skills that are needed to be successful.
